The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
