The former Liverpool manager says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell that included Champions League success and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach any other side within the country. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yes. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to management, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “It's unclear to me, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes that took the title last term. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in all competitions post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and its impact on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. It was an incredible shock for all the boys as well. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is challenging. Unbearable.”
