It's tough for the Australian squad to set fresh records.

The top summits have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has accomplished all there is.

That it took as late as Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over the last half-century.

It's challenging for their hitters to possess a record if not provided the opportunity.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to create her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup happened three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have come from 10 tries across formats.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fail again.

The question of whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort is debatable.

Many contend the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she led the batting statistics, but this knock came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in the nets, it has been a frustrating experience because it appeared I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in succeeding famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the batsman was in motion.

"The possibility to take the field and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was out the team required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm happy we have the assurance to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, should it happen, we know we can succeed."

That comment will be the last rival teams at this championship should hear.

During the last week a belief they will win from any position has grown stronger - this triumph coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one point.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with traditional opponents England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have delayed consideration of ending her career, this championship is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a world championship as captain.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
