That Gruesome Animated Movie Ending That Haunts Viewers
Among all the mature cartoon movies I have personally watched, nothing has lingered in my mind quite like the terror-laced finale of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker developed a dark, bleak , often savage world that included a few small , desolate twinges of optimism.
Although Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a desire to expand animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was more an effort to express a widespread, cross-cultural message concerning “the common origin of each battle.”
That idea is expressed by means of a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously based on a famous line of cuddly characters.
Growing up in a community focused on aggression and the war machine, many of these creatures are consumed by slaughtering the mythical beasts, because of a religious scripture that tells the bears they previously were rulers of the forest, before the unicorns drove them out.
Some did not entirely accepted the brainwashing, and choose to experiment with drugs or fornicate in the forest.
Unlike their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters display genitals and definite urges.
For one notably brutal, skeptical animal, Bluey, the war against unicorns transforms into a route toward dominance — and especially to dominance above his more tender, kinder brother the bear Tubby.
The character acts as a tormentor and an obvious antisocial figure , and when terror overcomes his group and kills his comrades sequentially, he seizes more and more power for himself, in increasingly gory, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, the unicorns are experiencing their own terror, through an expanding, destructive monster in their habitat.
“Initially, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker stated. “However it evolves into a more dramatic and sorrowful movie. And in the finale, it’s a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to one of the more playful features from a renowned animator, that uncover a mischievous joy in letting animated figures swear, shoot each other, or have intimate relations.
Afterward it evolves into closer to a more grim movie by that same director, featuring progressively graphic violence , a tangible connection to the actual horror of war.
Ultimately, it is a complete extreme drama bloodbath.
The fear that turns this a Halloween-friendly watch kicks in much sooner than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted gorehounds, for lovers of extreme cinema who wish to view a movie they haven’t ever watched previously, and are able to withstand a narrative that pulls no restraint.
View it in a dimly lit space with no disturbances, and that ending will burrow into your mind and take up residence there.
