England Coach Tim Southee Uncertain on Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's last Test match for New Zealand was versus the English side in December 2024.
England fast-bowling advisor Southee is still working through the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.
The ex- New Zealand seamer is only likely to be present for the first Test due to his participation in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.
Southee, 36, assumed a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Commenting as the English team for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was named, he said of his availability: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the coming days."
England pace icon Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which starts on 21 November.
"In my view there's at any time a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.
"Our focus is firmly on our own objectives. I think the caliber of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is brilliant.
"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people eagerly anticipate it, I think the entire cricketing community is."
However, prior to England travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on this Saturday.
